Jökulsárlón and the Diamond beach

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

Jökulsárlón is a breathtaking glacial lagoon with huge icebergs drifting around. It is originated from where the glacier Breiðamerkurjökull and the Atlantic ocean unite and the two magnificent forces of nature collide.

The Diamond Beach or Breiðamerkursandur is is just on the other side of the road from Jökulsárlón, where the melted Ice drifts ashore and sparkling bricks of ice can be seen shattered around the black beach.

It´s just as magnificent as it sounds and an absolute must see in Iceland

How long does it take to drive to Jökulsárlón from Reykjavik?

It´s about 6 hours drive from Reykjavik if you drive without any stops. There is though plenty to to see on the way such as Seljalandsfoss, Skógarfoss and Skógar museum.
